Overview

A targeted reset for stubborn tendons.

Radial shockwave therapy delivers pulses of acoustic energy into a precisely targeted area of tissue. The result is a controlled micro-trauma that stimulates blood flow, breaks up adhesions, and kick-starts the body's own healing in tissues that have stopped responding on their own.

It's not a magic bullet — but for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and chronic tennis or golfers elbow, the evidence is strong and our results are excellent. We pair every session with rehab so the tissue gets loaded the right way as it heals.

Delivered by registered physiotherapists or chiropractors. Covered under most extended-health plans.

What to expect

Three steps from first visit to back at it.

STEP 01

Diagnostic visit

First we make sure shockwave is the right tool. A clinical assessment, often with diagnostic ultrasound referral if indicated, confirms tendinopathy vs. other causes.

STEP 02

3–6 weekly sessions

Each shockwave session is 15–25 minutes. Treatment is intense but tolerable; mild residual soreness for 24–48 hours is normal.

STEP 03

Loaded rehab in parallel

Shockwave is the catalyst; loaded rehab is the cure. We integrate eccentric and heavy slow-resistance protocols throughout the treatment block.

Conditions we treat

What shockwave therapy can help with.

Some of the most common reasons patients book this service. If your situation isn't listed, give us a call — we likely treat it.

The Omega difference

Shockwave + rehab beats shockwave alone.

  • Radial shockwave delivered by qualified clinicians, not technicians.
  • Paired with the loaded rehab protocols current research supports.
  • Pre/post objective testing so we measure real change.
  • Most patients see noticeable improvement within 3 sessions.
  • Direct billing through your physio or chiro coverage.
  • No injections, no medication, no downtime.

Common questions

About shockwave therapy at Omega.

Does it hurt?
It's intense but tolerable. We can adjust intensity in real time, and we work up to therapeutic dose over the first 1–2 sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
Most tendinopathies respond in 3–6 weekly sessions. Calcific shoulder may take longer.
Is there downtime?
No. You may feel mild soreness for 24–48 hours — like a moderate workout. Avoid anti-inflammatories during the treatment block; they blunt the healing response we're trying to stimulate.
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes — when delivered by a registered physiotherapist or chiropractor, it's covered like a regular treatment under your physio or chiro coverage.
Who shouldn't have shockwave?
Pregnancy, blood-thinning medication, malignancy in the area, and certain neurological conditions. We screen thoroughly at your first visit.
