Overview

A medical device, prescribed properly.

Custom orthotics are medical devices, not generic shoe inserts. They’re prescribed by a clinician who has assessed your gait, the structure of your foot, and the load you put through it.

At Omega, that prescription is built into the rest of your treatment plan. Orthotics aren’t a band-aid — they’re a piece of a coordinated solution that also includes strength training, manual therapy, and footwear advice.

The process

From assessment to first walk.

STEP 01

Clinical assessment

A registered clinician examines your gait, joint mechanics, and footwear. We discuss whether orthotics are actually the right call.

STEP 02

3D scan or cast

Depending on your insurer’s requirements, either a 3D foot scan or a traditional plaster cast captures your foot in the right position.

STEP 03

Lab fabrication

Your prescription goes to a reputable Canadian lab. 1–3 week turnaround. We work with multiple labs based on the type of device.

STEP 04

Fit + follow-up

30-minute fitting and a 6-week follow-up. Adjustments included. Yearly re-eval.

  • Cost depends on materials, intended use (everyday vs. sport), and customizations.
  • Most extended-health plans cover all or most of the cost.
  • Many insurers require an MD prescription — we’ll refer if needed.
  • Devices typically last 2–4 years.
  • Annual re-evaluation included.
  • Direct billing where coverage allows.

About custom orthotics.

Do I need orthotics?
Maybe — maybe not. The honest answer is that orthotics help some conditions a lot, others a little, and a few not at all. Our job is to give you a clear opinion, not to sell you something.
How long until I feel a difference?
Most patients feel noticeably different in their first week. Full adaptation takes 4–6 weeks.
Can I wear them in any shoe?
Most. We can also prescribe sport-specific or dress-shoe-specific versions if needed.
What if they aren’t comfortable?
Come back. Adjustments are included for the life of the device. If something genuinely isn’t right, we remake under warranty.
